What a free alternative needs
The capabilities that keep people paying for Enfocus PitStop Pro.
1
Preflight against PDF/X and print profiles
Checks for fonts, resolution, color spaces, bleed and transparency with named profiles.
2
Automatic fixes for found problems
3
Object-level editing of finished PDFs
Edit text, images, colors and fonts inside a PDF without going back to the source file.
4
Action lists for batch processing
Why it is hard
Preflight profiles follow print standards such as PDF/X and the Ghent Workgroup specifications, and editing arbitrary PDF content safely needs a mature PDF object model.

Building one?
List your tool on Gratistack when it works. Once an editor maps it to Enfocus PitStop Pro, it shows on this page and in search, and the people waiting here can hear about it.
Listing is free. An editor reviews the free queue every week.
Want a decision sooner? The optional $49 fast-track gets one within 48 hours. It buys speed, not approval, and a rejection is refunded.
Once it is listed as an alternative, you can sponsor the alternatives page for $149 per 30 days. Sponsors are labeled and never change the ranking.
